•These machines are designed for rubbing small area substrates (up to 3”x3”) in order to produce planar oriented liquid crystal cells. We have departed from the conventional designs for rubbing machines that are optimized for rubbing large area substrates.

•Simple operation and setting: only one moving part makes choosing optimal rubbing conditions very simple and straightforward (there are many more control parameters in conventional machines – the diameter of cylinder, its rotation speed, and the translation speed of the substrate holder).

•Detachable vacuum substrate holder: allows to avoid permanent presence of a vacuum pump. Just take the holder to wherever there is a pump. Attach the glass to the holder using the pump, close the vacuum channel, detach the holder from the pump, and install the holder on the Rubbing Machine to start rubbing.

•Vertical and horizontal operation: allows the machine to best accommodate to the laboratory space.

•Low price: the device costs only a fraction of commercial rubbing machines.
